Boring...

I've been contemplating a post for many days now and have come to the conclusion that my life is kinda boring at the moment. This is the reason I don't twitter and really don't understand it...just can't believe that there is anyone who would want to read about the ho-hum day-to-day activity of my life...ooohhhhh, wait...I'm getting hungry...going to make some lunch soon! It's all just too exciting to put into words.

Sarcastic rant over...at least today I can share a new design:

I'm planning to create this new locket style necklace with a few options other than the oak tree. For now you can find this one for sale in my Etsy store!

Love is in the air...

I've been pondering new designs for Valentine's Day for awhile now. It may be a Hallmark holiday to some but it is one of my favorites so I go out of my way to make it meaningful. I guess I love the romance that comes with the date...a simple box of chocolates, handmade cards, conversation hearts, silly little cartoon animals bursting with love. That is where my mind has been and these are the creations that have sprung from it so far:

Squirrel!

This is one of the little guys who have been liberating the seed from our bird feeder...and keeping our "kids" entertained for hours on end. Just so you get an idea of how exciting our cats find this, the camera was not on zoom when I took this...if there wasn't glass there I could have scratched this little guy behind his ears...not that I would do such a foolish thing!

Beyond Excited!

I had the find of the decade earlier this afternoon and am so incredibly excited...yes the decade is only 7 days old but this find might just last the test of time.

Anyway, I've been browsing at purchasing some new metal stamps for quite awhile now. Anyone who knows how much these things cost will understand the patience with which I've been shopping. I'm not one for fancy fonts because the "standard" ones you can buy don't fit my style (and are used by everyone) and I can't bring myself to drop half a mortgage payment on a custom order set.

Soooooo...I've been browsing a number of places, Ebay being one, and today I found a VINTAGE set of 1/4" Young Brothers stamps at an absolute steal. I couldn't believe it and I couldn't buy them fast enough! I only hope they are as good as they look and I am imagining...

Ode to the golf ball marker...

Almost a year ago I decided to make my husband a golf ball marker for Valentine's Day. It was a simple and inexpensive gift, which is what we strive for on that particular holiday. I made a few more for family and friends and then decided that perhaps I should add it into my Etsy store. Since I sell jewelry, I knew it was a different item that might not fit in and I was unsure if I would sell any.

I have to say that I've been nothing short of shocked at how much attention this little item has received and how much business it has brought. To date, I have sold more than 20 markers, the item has had almost 1600 viewers, and it has been featured on the front page twice. Yes, completely shocked and completely grateful!

Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne!

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

Happy New Year and Cheers to 2010!

There was good...there was bad...and some of it was certainly ugly.

As the number of days in 2009 dwindle into oblivion, I can't say I've ever been happier to see a year end. I hate that I am currently feeling that 2009 was such a bummer because there were a few really good things that happened along side of the bad:

1. We turned our first house into a home.
2. We celebrated our first year of marriage.
3. We realized how strong we are as individuals and as a couple.
4. We found new friends in hard times that are now good friends in better times.

I say we because it has been a year in which I felt a little lost and would not have made it without my wonderful husband by my side. Thanks Schmoopy.

As for the other love of my life...EWD is ending the year on a high note and for that I cannot be more grateful. Sales and requests continue to trickle in despite the dreaded after holiday spending regret. In the past month, my shop was visited by 2,966 visitors from 54 countries/territories, which is (needless to say) pretty damn cool.

So...while there was good, bad, and certainly ugly in 2009, I will do my best to focus on the positive as I look ahead to 2010. After all...it's a new decade.

A wonderfully busy holiday...

Yep...that's what it was...a wonderfully busy holiday! I feel I need to give thanks to the "Etsy Gods" for smiling down upon me and my little pieces of silver this holiday shopping season. I finally counted this morning...and I had more than 80 online holiday orders! Add to that three open house shows in Nov/Dec and it was in fact a very, very busy couple of months. So...thank you, thank you "Etsy Gods" and thank you, thank you wonderful EWD customers!

A few other holiday highlights:

Our "kids" opening presents.

Beautiful holiday cards...this one was my favorite!

Cozy new Uggers from my hubby!

A truly beautiful new bowl...also from my hubby! Bowl was hand thrown by Etsyian Mary Dorsch Pottery...check her out here...http://www.etsy.com/shop/maryeverett.

Very old bottles of wine finally opened...thanks Dad...and consumed along with homemade Blake Family ravioli sauce! Yum.

Of course there was also wonderful time spent with family, friends and loved ones...but we tend to be a little camera shy!

Front Page!

I was excited to wake up today and see that one of my items had made the front page on Etsy. It's a first!

NOVEMBER!

October was a busy month which flew by with reckless abandon. On top of designing new items and prepping for several upcoming open house shows, my husband and I finally decided to paint the kitchen cabinets. It took a year for us to muster the courage to tackle such a large project and it was so much work that I still hurt. In the end though, it was worth it...

The Etsy Community...

I just wanted to take a moment to say how grateful I am to the Etsy community. I am constantly amazed at how friendly and supportive most sellers are. I would not say that I have found great success selling on Etsy quite yet and I've yet to gain much exposure on the site. It's reassuring beyond measure, however, to receive e-mail from random strangers complimenting my work. It gives me hope that more exposure is possible and that (hopefully) successful selling will not be far behind!

I've always tried to work from the perspective that you get back in life what you put out to others so...check out these wonderfully kind Etsyians...they have really beautiful work!
